Rediscovery, Resilience, and the Power of Choosing Yourself

My journey began with the unexpected shock of being laid off, throwing me into an uncertain and unfamiliar space. It wasn’t just a career loss—it triggered a cascade of emotions I wasn’t prepared for. My childhood stuttering resurfaced, and I found myself wrestling with feelings of failure, fear, and uncertainty. But that moment became a catalyst—a push to confront the toxic work environments I had endured for far too long, and more importantly, to confront myself.

Growing up, I was taught that staying small, quiet, and keeping the peace was what a woman should do. Those beliefs shaped how I navigated relationships and challenges. When people hurt me, I stayed silent, believing that was the right thing to do. But the hardship lies in this: you don’t know how much these patterns trap you until you start to unlearn them. And once you know, it’s so hard to break the chains.

In my journey of self-discovery, I’ve had to dig deep into understanding my identity, my habits, and the why behind my actions. Why did I always choose others first? Why did I silence my own needs to maintain the peace? The truth is, I was conditioned to believe that my worth came from how much I gave to others, how much I sacrificed. But that belief drained me. I realized I had spent so much time trying to fix others and make them happy that I had neglected the one person who needed my attention the most—myself.

Unlearning these habits felt like undoing years of conditioning. It was like trying to rewrite the rules of who I thought I was supposed to be, and that discomfort was immense. Breaking free came at a cost—I’ve lost people along the way. Not everyone understands when you start choosing yourself, and not everyone will stay. But I’ve learned that losing people is sometimes necessary to find yourself.

Betrayal played a big role in my growth, triggering fight, flight, and even fawn responses as I navigated the pain of losing trust in people I thought would never hurt me. Those moments taught me the importance of self-reflection and self-forgiveness—lessons that came with immense discomfort but led to profound growth. I learned that you can’t fix things you didn’t break and that staying silent or seeking to please others at your own expense only traps you in a cycle of unhappiness.

Now, I choose to work hard for myself, embracing a path that aligns with my passions and purpose. My journey has shown me the freedom of not having to know exactly what you want, but rather, the beauty of simply continuing to learn, grow, and just be.

Through it all, I’ve found strength in the word “Thread.” It weaves through our lives, connecting us to each other, to our experiences, and to ourselves. Threads represent unity, resilience, and the stories that make us who we are. That’s why I’ve created this space—to share sayings, insights, and stories that remind us we’re never alone in our battles.

This is my story—a journey of rediscovery, resilience, and the power of choosing myself. And now, I’m here to inspire others to do the same. When you put yourself first and break free from old patterns, amazing things happen. Let’s explore this together.
